It took 45 years, following the end of the WW2 alliance with Stalin, to bury communism. It still stalks the world, of course, but as an ideological zombie. It’s no longer as the virulent plague it once was. That role has been taken over by radical Islam.
Virulent plagues are not easily brushed aside. Only those lost in their utopian daydreams or blinded by ideologically rose-tinted glasses think they can be. It takes cultural self-respect, dogged determination, unwavering patience, a steely grasp on cold reality, and power in all its forms to defeat them.
Whether those qualities exist in our President and in the American people remains to be seen, but this photograph should stand as a grim reminder of what awaits if we do not.
“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” — Santayana
