RIP, Leonard Cohen

by Anniel11/16/16

There is a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in. — Leonard Cohen

Leonard Cohen died of cancer on 7 November 2016, at the age of 82.

Mark Steyn celebrated his life most beautifully in his Song of the Week column titled Dance Me to the End of Love, on dated November 13, 2016.

This is a wonderful article and explanation of the life and music of Mr. Cohen, particularly when he disclosed what inspired him to write Dance Me to the End of Love.

It brought me to tears more than once. • (639 views)

I had never heard of Cohen until I studied in Europe. He was very popular among the German intellectual type, a very distinct animal.

Like Bob Dylan, I believe he should have stuck to writing.

I will read Steyn’s article as he is unusual among many present day pundits in that he understands music and art. Thanks for the suggestion.

I have really come to love Cohen. Which surprises me a lot.

Steyn must have near perfect recall about everything. His Song of the Week columns are gems of historical information, and so much fun to read. I’d hate to be the hockey stick fake Nobel prize winner, Mann, in court with him, and I’d be so embarrassed to be the judge in that trial. It should have been settled long ago. NRO really messed up when they let Steyn’s Happy Warrior column go. Their loss. When he left, so did I.

For many weeks after Steyn’s last weekend article for them, there were complaints among the NRO bloggers (including me). He’s also my favorite guest host for Rush.

Hell. I like him better than Rush. He has carved out a little book-club niche for himself as sort of the un-Coulter. Where Ann is fingernails across the blackboard, Steyn is as likely to go on about Cole Porter and Sinatra.

I read Steyn’s article Annie. Thanks. As I have said before, “That boy sure can write.”

  3. Glenn Fairman says:

Cohen has been my muse since the 70’s. I owe him more than I can say.

I love his rhymes, like those in “Democracy is Coming to the USA”. Who else could pull off “USA” and “Chevrolet”?

      Great muse to have.

Never too late to salute the praiseworthy,
The Leonard with voice a mix of gravel and gravy.
