One Response to The Professor and the Madman

I’m about 60% into this book. It’s a surprisingly interesting read. Perhaps there are two main themes in this history book (it’s not fiction): There is redemption for everyone (even the mad man) and they were absolutely bonkers crazy to ever take on the task of creating the Oxford English Dictionary. You read this and you can’t imagine that it was even possibly. Every entry is verbose and painstakingly crafted with supporting uses of the words drawn from thousands of books, books that someone had to read and index. Granted, the process took decades. It wasn’t done overnight. But still. Daunting.
