Happy Birthday, Patricia

by The Editor11/13/15

I hope I look this good when I turn 50. Wait…that’s already happened. But you know what I mean.

Happy 50th, Patricia. She was nice enough to send along a photo of a cake a colleague had baked for her. Looks good. Like Henry Ford, I’ll eat any cake as long as it’s chocolate. (Maybe or maybe you don’t remember his quip that you can get the Model T in any color you like, as long as it’s black.)

Patricia notes that she was thoroughly touched by this gesture of kindness and it did a number on her mascara.

She also sent along a photo of her taken at a Veterans Day event yesterday. This photo appeared in the local newspaper. I’ve reproduced the original caption.

Happy belated birthday. Was it today, yesterday or Veterans Day (previously known as Armistice Day:?

Chocolate cake is indeed good, but I will say that the quality of a cake tends to be based on the frosting as far as I’m concerned. And, indeed, happy birthday, Patricia. As for 50 — well, like many contributors here, I’m way beyond that.

“When I was a child. I spake (and ate the frosting only) as a child. When I grew up I began to be more concerned with the contents of the cake.”

Or something like that. But, heck, I love a good frosting, but not that stuff that is 50% Crisco.

Chocolate cake with chocolate frosting with chocolate sprinkles eaten with a chocolate-brown fork on a chocolate-brown plate with the shades drawn to give the room a dark chocolate color. That’s perfection. If they made such thing as a chocolate suppository…well, let’s not go there.

Belated birthday greetings, Patricia. We are indeed very blessed that you were born, born American, and grew up to embrace common sense!
