But that isn't incompatible with your view of them as shallow and dumb, is it?

That any red-blooded American male would find the Tide commercials (which I thought were the worst of the lot) anything but offensive is a big problem. No man should see himself reflected as a complete dumb-ass idiot in a TV commercial and then be persuaded to buy someone’s product. The only healthy response would be to write Procter & Gamble a letter informing them that treating their customers as if they were idiots is no way to sell their product.

Of course, if their customers are already vulgar idiots with no sense of nobility or class then, well, you may indeed sell a lot of soap.

Or, of course, there is the very likely alternative: Women are still the major soap-buyers and given the Nazi-like Feminist movement (women are superior, men are meant for the cultural concentration camps of dumbness), portraying men as stupid probably is a way for advertisers to suck up to women . . . and sell a lot of soap. It used to be enough to show “Our whites are whiter.” Now apparently it’s “Our men are dumber.”

Making men come off as fools or incompetents goes back decades, and no doubt reflects trying to appeal to women (who do the bulk of the domestic buying) through flattery. I remember one from decades ago that involved a blown fuse, and it was the wife rather than the husband dealing with it, per contra "When I'm Sixty-Four" by the Beatles. ("I can be handy mending a fuse when your lights are gone. You can knit a sweater by the fireside. Sunday mornings, go for a ride."

They seem to have run this idea to an excess. But one assumes they are still selling soap to the same people. One also wonders if men have enough self-respect and dignity left to call this nonsense what it is. It’s particularly undignified when one is insulted and does not know it.

Clearly, the "taking a knee" drama last year cost the NFL more than was reported and has got the NFL very concerned about their revenues.

I do not know if this will staunch the bleeding, but I will still not be tuning in.

I just finished editing a mailer for a GOP client/friend of mine yesterday. He took off of it the mention of him being a big Seahawks fan. In the Seahawk-crazy Northwest, it’s a significant achievement by the players to make open support of them controversial.

As for the new rule, isn’t this yet another case of the rules already being on the books? The problem is having the guts to enforce the rules. Just like they keep passing laws in regards to illegal aliens but the real problem is enforcement of existing laws. It’s all for show. Again, the NFL can go to hell.

What with one thing and another, it looks like they are indeed heading that way. Between concussions and political correctness, they're making themselves increasingly unpopular. Of course, all I watch is MLB, so it doesn't matter much to me. Fortunately, the SJWs haven't taken over baseball, at least not yet.

Mark Davis has a somewhat soft article on the subject. But I do agree that this solves nothing. But then it's not meant to from our standpoint of eradicating the kneeling and such. It's meant to minimize the anger of fans while not offending the players. It's Solomon splitting the baby in half.

Finally, a newspaper sticking their metaphorical finger in the eye of the PC Police and pointing out what a low-life Serena Williams is, to boot.

https://www.news.com.au/sport/sports-life/newspaper-doubles-down-with-front-page-response-to-serena-williams-cartoon-critics/news-story/71c6c1c9b496bac955c806d6ab5e9bc0

The only way to stop the PC madness, which is in fact the left's way of curtailing free speech, is to fight back hard and publicly call out the snowflakes, liars, phonies, racists and communists.

Serena Williams did misbehave badly, and the result (with a great assist from the tennis authorities) is that the match ended up being about the loser rather than the winner. (But a black woman ranks above an Asian woman in the identity politics hierarchy, after all.) The smidgen of a point for her is that some men (such as, most notoriously, John McEnroe) have behaved similarly -- reportedly without such penalties. But she was given a warning, then a small penalty, then a larger penalty. She was warned, and blew up anyway. That's her fault, no one else's.

McEnroe should have been thrown out of the sport. As for Williams, there’s a lot that I could say that wouldn’t be very kind. (Many folks liken her to Disney’s dancing hippo. There is an absurd visual component to her, including that she’s built like a man.)

As Mr. Kung had pointed out to me in a private conversation (but I think his point is a good one and certainly not controversial) that it’s a strange thing for Williams to cry racism when the person benefitting from any supposed racism is a person who is half black/half Asian and, by the way, is also a woman.
