Breitbart has an article by Daniel Leberfeld that says “Safe to come back to NFL, no kneelers made the playoffs.” Most of the commenters to the article are of the mindset, “I hope the ratings continue to crater.”

The problem is that the kneelers were still kneeling. If the problem is simply watching the kneelers, and it doesn't matter if they happen elsewhere, then the Breitbart article is right. But if the problem is the politics of the NFL and ESPN as demonstrated by the kneelers and their acceptance by the relevant authorities, then nothing has changed.

Thanks like covering a pimple with makeup and saying it is healed. What a putz.

It's human nature, Mr. Kung. When it comes down to it, only God Almighty himself believes in eternal truths. For the rest of us, our values are negotiable. But I'll not watch these a-holes on TV anytime soon.

Neither will I, of course, but then, I don't watch football (either college or professional). Good thing this disease hasn't spread to MLB. (Except for one Oakland player, and he may have done it only once. I don't root for Oakland anyway.)

My older brother came by last Saturday. He wanted to watch one of the playoff games so I did sit down and watch some NFL football. We saw the comeback of some team over the other. I’ve already forgotten. What occurred to me is that I don’t miss it. It’s just completely mindless distraction. A waste of time. I have no desire to get caught up in these artificial dramas.

And a real shame the kneeling Seahawks missed the playoffs. Even those who don’t have such a sore spot because of the kneeling recognize that this is a particularly bad set of characters outside of a few good ones such as Russell Wilson.

Apparently the kneelers didn't make it into the post-season. There seems to have been quite a lot of karma this season.

Mark Steyn has an obituary for Milton J. Rosenberg, polymath and noted interviewer of authors. It seems his attitude towards modern pop culture was one people here would appreciate. The link is:

My older brother came by and we watched the Super Bowl. It was nice spending some time with him, but I wish I had those hours back. I realize that I’m completely intellectually and emotionally disconnected from this arbitrary sport.

But the game itself was competitive from that standpoint. What really brought me down and wishing I had those hours back was the horrid halftime show and the pathetic, stupid, vulgarian commercials. It’s so sad to see that apparently the way to sell stuff to the dopes is to present every white American male as a dope.

We are creatures of culture. No man is an island, and all that. But as I was telling my brother who asked my opinion about the commercials and halftime show: “They might as well be space aliens. This is all as if from another planet.”

So do we commiserate with each other in our noble isolation outside the cultural gutter? To some extent, yes. But I never want to be one of those sad people sitting on the sidewalk with an “The end is near” sign. But outside of it we should be.

As I quipped to my brother, especially when viewing the halftime show (he thought only a golden calf was missing) was that when Islam says we are a corrupt culture in need of destruction, what can we say in our defense?

I saw maybe five plays of yesterday's "Night at the Coliseum", and I will admit that I watched only one Super Bowl in the last five years or so. But even in the Super Bowl I saw, I avoided both the commercials and half-time shows.

You know my deeply held conviction that the advertising industry played a major part in softening up America as regards to being able to respect and discern truth. I find it even more perverse that people would look forward to watching clips devised to part them from their money for products which they don't need.

As to the half-time show, for years now, it has become a spectacle where the "singer" lip-sings a carefully recorded piece as a bunch of fools jump around to the pulse of flashing lights. Phony art for a culture which, increasingly, prizes phoniness.
