That last is an interesting point. Here's someone who was successful and popular (I have a whopping 20 followers on Disqus, and at least one is a leftist troll), but obviously his life was empty. Maybe his approach to achieving success and popularity (i.e., permanently disfiguring himself) was incompatible with personal satisfaction.

I considered the question of disfiguring oneself for success and popularity, i.e. a type of greed as motivator. But I believe that only someone deeply unhappy with oneself could even consider disfiguring oneself for such ephemeral rewards. I believe if one has a minimum amount of self-love and respect, one would not sacrifice one's body in such a way.

I think it should be said that people, particularly young people, have searched for meaning in life for thousands of years, at least. One would suppose that most of these young seekers were able to find that meaning, at least to some degree, in religion or belief in something greater than oneself. In today's culture, that option seems to be less popular, thus despair can be total. Radical Secularism is not nourishing to the soul.

Unfortunately, one cannot read the complete article, but the first paragraph confirms what most people, who have had to deal with today's yutes, already know.

This is something which can be dangerous.

Well, if this keeps them from being able to collect their welfare checks when the times comes, it could be a serious problem.

My chuckle for the day.

I saw that headline on Drudge this morning as well, Mr. Kung. I wanted to do something with it but it only shows the first couple of paragraphs.

I’ve spoken to people online (I’m sure you all have) who’ve gone completely ballistic simply for expressing a different opinion about something. And I’m including within this group people who were or had been friends of mine for some time.

I’m torn between understanding this as a function of human nature and as something peculiar to our time.

Whatever the case may be, I think it’s axiomatic that the less wisdom one has the more apt one is to reach for the nuclear option in one’s thinking and behavior, even accounting for different temperaments.

More and more I’m coming to dislike people. And I’m not alone. Look around you. I see businesses and government offices that once were open to be public become hidden behind security doors. I just delivered something to a customer today and had a WTF? moment. Why a security door here at a friggin’ office?

The disgraceful recent activity by the mob (and the truly idiotic mayor of Portland, OR) regarding an ICE office is ominous. There is no hyperbole in my voice when I say this general state of affairs can only be corrected by a good deal of bloodletting. That’s not a threat. That’s an analysis of what I think decent and ordinary people are up against.

But how many will be left after turning into 3-year-olds?

Well, in theory there are those who turned them into 3-year-olds. But I'm not sure it's provable that they have to be more mature than that, and it could just mean that they're the equivalents of young teenagers. Paging Veruca Salt -- they need you in the DNC.

Timothy, I wonder if people becoming intimately connected with their ideas is so new. Probably not. What is truly shocking to me, though, is that often we’re not talking about long-held ideas. We’re talking about people sometimes believing one thing one moment and believing the opposite the next and defending both with trip-wire mania to all comers.

This is where I walk backward while bowing to The Daily Drama, which sits on its throne, while I move safely away and out the crested door. It’s crazy at the top — and the side, bottom, and middle.

People have always been in love with their ideas. Look up Pierre Blondlot's n-rays sometime. He wasn't a charlatan, merely mistaken. (Sort of like Percival Lowell mapping the non-existent Martian canals. But he never learned that he was wrong. He did get to have a planet -- now a dwarf planet -- partly named after him. Pluto was discovered and named by an astronomer at the Percival Lowell observatory -- and the name begins with his initials, though it was also a logical next name for a planet after Uranus and Neptune.) But he wouldn't admit it. But as you note, what's odd today is that people are acting this way not over their own silly notions, but an even sillier party line.
