I’m going to remain agnostic on this. Which YouTube stars. Which parents. The sad fact is, all too many parents have abandoned their kids in one form or another (perhaps, for example, foisting the idea on them that there is no such thing as male or female.) These kids need guidance and some are obviously looking for it outside of their parents. And just like Johnny Lee says, they're doing so "in all the wrong places."

The “adults” have foisted their hysteria on kids including “climate change.” In many ways, they have become the worst source for how to live a good life. They've instilled a sense of doom in them. We could coin another word and call them the Doomlennials. Not as snappy as Gullennials but descriptive.

Our kids need sober, wise, rational guidance. I’ll grant you that 99% of YouTube stars aren’t going to fit that description. They’re going to do little more than mirror back nonsense to today’s Yutes. But Dennis Prager is a YouTube star. It's possible.

One of the ideas I had for this site (and still have) is for the adults do write content aimed not at chastising the idiots (there will never be an end to idiots) but guiding them. At some point kids, all on their own, learn that eating cotton candy for breakfast is going to make them sick.

Well, I admit they haven’t quite figured that out yet regarding liberalism. Neither have the many “adults.” I can’t help thinking the punchline from the movie, WarGames, isn’t relative here: “The only winning move is not to play.”

The only winning move is to detox from so-called “social” media. Recognize it for what it is: Cotton candy. It's where snake oil stupidity doubles-down. I ask all the adults here to, from time to time, write something as if to a Yute with the intent to give them a set of useful instructions.

Interesting that you mention Wargames here. The amoral Broderick character probably did learn not to play phone games and use it for cheating as he did at the beginning. Nearly causing a global holocaust can do that. Maybe even modern leftists could learn that way, though I have to wonder. We used to say that a conservative was a liberal who got mugged, and Alan Dershowitz responded that a liberal was a conservative who got arrested. But today many leftists get mugged (or are victims of comparable or even worse crimes) without learning anything. (Of course, we can only judge what they say. Maybe they learn better, but don't want to isolate themselves from the collective by expressing heretical views. The solution may be to find sensible groups for them to join.)

Having cotton candy at breakfast probably won't make you sick, though I can't say for sure due to a lack of personal experience in the field. Having a lot of cotton candy and nothing else, and doing it for several meals in a row, would be a very different matter. That almost makes me sick just in contemplation, and I enjoyed cotton candy on those occasions when I had it as a kid.

While I agree that there are lousy parents and good You Tube Stars, I have no doubt that the percentages are with the parents and against YouTube exhibitionists.

The likelihood that some jerk, sitting in his basement or little studio, who does not know you, will never meet you, and is looking to make money off clicks is able to fully understand your situation and has your best interests at heart is vanishingly small. He will say what he thinks you want to hear so that you keep clicking

Again, that is not to say that some people on the internet, very few in my limited experience, really wish to put out good, solid information to help and enlighten others. And there is no doubt that family can be a pain in the ass with various personal agendas at work. But there is no doubt in my mind that friends and family have a lot more personal interest in helping yutes and a lot more to lose than some guy on the internet trying to attract clicks.

Of course, this is said with the proviso that the parents are not already braindead YouTube zombies themselves.

Teaching people about the dangers of snake-oil salesmen is an unending task. One of the problems is that “culture” is now synonymous with “social media” and the various online things. To me, I try to make them a tool. For most yutes, it’s a lifestyle and identity.

Remember back to high school and how, thank god, we escaped that? I was as bad as any of them. Probably a good deal worse in terms of trying to be with the right clique, etc.

But with online, it never stops. You never graduate. You never grow up. The same regressive culture (what was perhaps suited to high school) remains one’s focus and measure of selfhood.

Yutes therefore put much more stock in what some cybernetic snake-oil salesmen is selling them because most have no other way to measure themselves or life. And quite of few adults are playing down to the culture of yutes. Think of the various observations of Theodore Dalrymple describing how the higher classes are aping the lowest classes.

Our job: Put out good, solid information that helps. At least some of the time. I like playing too.

Speaking of Theodore Dalrymple, here is a wonderful piece by him. It applies to this conversation in a very nice way.

Well, one advantage of an interest in politics (especially policy) is that it is (or can be) an interest outside of yourself. Note that the word "idiot" comes from a Greek term for someone who took no interest in public affairs.

Not all leftist idiocies are related to their compulsive TDS. Sophia Leung, an academic librarian, wrote a blog article for the hitherto prestigious Library Journal complaining about all the books by white men conveying white experiences that were no doubt stolen from POCs. (I assume readers here can figure out what that is, despite being too sane to spout such idiocies themselves.)

A lot of people have had fun with this, pointing out (e.g.) that most Americans are white, so naturally most American books would be white. They also point out that no one specifically excludes materials by non-whites in libraries. And some pointed out that her attitude is the same as that of the Nazis who made bonfires of books by Jews. (And Ernst Röhm, the SA head, was not only sympathetic to socialism but also a homosexual, making him very suitable as a new leftist icon.) The link is:

White Books Bad, Nonwhite Books Good
