The couple in this piece encapsulate much of what is wrong with America today and why I don't see much light at the end of our tunnel. (For tunnel read future)

I wonder if some fat-slob man would receive the same kind of "Oh...isn't he handsome!" treatment.

No need to wonder. The answer is no. This whole nonsense about "positive-body-image" has been foisted on society to make it easier for fat women to forget about disciplining themselves, and to pretend that fat is good, healthy, etc.

At the same time, the country spends a fortune on "weight-loss." I think I read somewhere that near US$100 billion is spent on this pursuit every year.

This is the same type of thinking that has corrupted our society which give out trophies just for showing up. It has created a generation of little monsters who wish away reality and become outraged when reality raises its ugly head.

If that ain't cognitive dissonance, I don't know what is. And feminine sensibility is behind it.

Well, there you go. That's the short, low-calorie, concise answer. Well done.
