Dennis Prager has an article about what I typically call The Wicker Man Effect. It’s about living side-by-side with zombies that could turn on you at any moment. You have to be careful, even go to efforts to hide from them.

I expect the lifespan of StubbornThings to be about two years, tops. Not because I’m necessarily bored with it or that most people have turned out to be uncreative hacks with little nose for anything other than bitching. No. I think our shelf life is limited because internet service providers will begin to pull the plug on sites such as ours.

But that hasn’t happened yet. And this is certainly not a place where we are hiding from the goons and “nice” Progressive Nazis. But the goons are gaining power. And unless you are self-employed, they hold you over a barrel. In fact, I’m guessing many of the regulars here are self-employed. Thinking for yourself has become a habit and you don't like the idea of giving that up.

I don’t advise playing a Marranos. At some point, you have to live your life with integrity or it’s not worth living. That’s not to say that going around with a big chip on your shoulder and looking for fights is the way to go. Wise men and women choose their battles.

But I honest to God would likely find it impossible to work in corporate America or government where unreality reigns. Let us use whatever days we have left here at StubbornThings to celebrate the freedom of thought that this country used to be known for. I won’t live like a Marranos. But most these days are, and it’s not to their credit, if you ask me.

I read that article, too. I assume your two-year limit means two more years, since you've already lasted longer than that. Incidentally, there were also hidden Muslims (known as Moriscos) masquerading as Christians in Spain in that era. They were eventually driven out. Also incidentally, Francisco Franco would reject the anti-semitism of the Nazis despite his traditionalist-fascist combination. (Literally; the official party of Nationalist Spain was fusion of Carlists and Falangists.) Perhaps the influence of wealthy anti-Loyalist Jew Juan March had something to do with this.)

Yes, two more years is my estimate unless things change for the better.

according to the book Pendulum we will ave to wait till about 2023 till we reach the tipping point, and then we will start to change direction, (although they think we are in the good years and in 2023 the left will have taken this crap too far???), and the right will finally fight back and things will get ugly for 10 years or so. Very depressing book. Two lefties trying desperately to seem neutral. The basic premise is we have a 40 year cycle that they claim can be traced back 3000 years one pinnacle is a "We" side and the other is a "Me" side. 1963 start of a Me 1983 pinnacle of a Me, 2003 start of a We and 2023 pinnacle of a We. They try to say both side are good, tin and yang sort of thing, but both have their dark side when it goes too far. They may have something there, but the leftist slant they throw at you sometimes gets a little old.

That book sounds like a bunch of pop psychology nonsense, Pat.

One thing to note, history has never been a cycle between representative republics and dictators.

I like what this one Amazon reviewer wrote:

Trying to apply the author's 80-year me-to-we cycle theory to the future reminds me of an interesting experience I had a few years ago. I attended a symposium for Financial Planners in Chicago a few years ago. You could get a free box lunch, but you had to listen to a sales pitch while you ate it. One pitch person said the stock market goes up and down in cycles (gee, like a Pendulum). The stock market can be divided into about 12 industry sectors. Some sectors do better in rising markets, some better in falling markets. To get rich, all you had to do was realize what part of the cycle you were in.......then buy the appropriate stocks for that part of the cycle.

After lunch, I told one of the other attendees, "If this guy has figured out the holy grail of investing, then why is he doing sales pitches for box lunches in the basement of a Chicago hotel........versus sitting on the beach somewhere?" The other attendee chuckled, and said, "Yeah, but boy he sure could tell a good story.”

Has feminism been on a 80 year cycle? Think about what happened to that guy at Google. The real story that no one I know of has mentioned is that in popular culture, defense of men’s abilities is not allowed. Men cannot be special. Men must be considered a problem to be solved and “equalized” by taking him down a notch.

Maybe there is a very large cycle between Sparta and Amazonia and it’s just too long to easily see.

Well Brad, I did a poor job of describing what it is about, the authors claim that this is not about politics and for the most part, that is true, (although their leftist ideology shines through in almost every thing they write). They try to show what they call alpha voices and how those voices change the culture but rarely get the recognition and very often are killed for their point of view. Alpha voices can be very good or very bad, or anything in between, (think Jesus, good alpha voice and Stalin, Mao, Hitler as examples of bad alpha voices).

Since our form of government is relatively so new, there is not much covered about that difference. The me cycle is all about big dream, big goals, (the upswing) and selfish desires (the down swing). The We is all about taking care of others, self sacrifice, (the up swing),controlling others for their own good, (the down swing). When you get past their gushing over John Lennon's Imagine or FDR's attempt to save us all, you can see some cyclical swings in the culture.

I see our culture as having a left bias; our pendulum never seems to go as far back to the right and always seems to go farther to the left with each pass. It is almost like the pivot point is being tilted to the left every year. If you have ever been on a really cheap swing set, that is not anchored down well, you keep going more to one side than the other until that pivot point goes to far, then you crash hard. (I got a broken arm out of that lesson).

That particular reviewer was wrong about one little part. They authors claim a 40 year cycle from we to me, 80 years from ME to ME or WE to WE peeks, offset by 20 years. The rest seems pretty close to my reaction. It is interesting from the stand point of 3000 years of a number of people or cultures I have never heard of, listed in the 80, (give or take), year cycle of the peeks. First the We, for 3000 years and then the Me's for 3000 years. I am struggling to finish the book but they are about to embark on the next few cycles of both. If I can get through it I will let you know how this country will end according to these two.

Oh. I get it. You mean this voice as opposed to this one?

I think they could find that both could be their version of an alpha voice, I am not sure which side they would fall on. By the way where can I get pants like that?

Pat, I'd pay big money to get a photo of you in pants like that. I hope I haven't offended you. If I have, here's a slight aside that's worth a chuckle.

More proof that too many present-day Americans are dumb as rocks and happy as clams in their stupidity and ignorance.

Anyone willing to take my bet that the number of ignoramuses is drastically higher amongst the younger respondents? This has been planned. Low-info, high-self-esteem know-nothings, who have the vote. "Danger Will Robinson, danger."
