Animal Farm

AnimalFarmSuggested by Brad Nelson • Off all the dystopia novels, this is the finest. George Orwell casts a nearly perfect piece of writing. It’s an engaging story and an allegory for all time. And if you can’t see Obama in this, you’re not awake.

I read this book in Mrs. Snodgrass’s 10th grade English class. It’s indeed very instructive, but as it cuts too close to the bone on the ills of communism it is no longer required reading in High school.
I’m only curious when that decision was made. (As I’m also curious when “BC” was bastardized to “BCE” here in TX.)

I read Animal Farm on my own about 50 years ago, but never had it in class. I did, however, write book reports on it in 2 different years. We did have 1984 and Brave New World in 10th grade, but I was in a private school by then.
